Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 in La Liga at Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, extending their lead atop the standings to four points.

Barcelona dominated possession early on but struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Raphinha’s shot from outside the area their only attempt at goal.

Atleti scored from their first attempt, with Nahuel Molina putting Alex Baena through on goal, and the Spaniard dinked the ball past goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

The visitors’ lead lasted for only seven minutes as Raphinha drew Barcelona level, rounding up goalkeeper Jan Oblak, before applying the finish.

Atleti almost restored their advantage soon after when Baena almost beat Garcia in a one-on-one, but the Spaniard prevented him from going through.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute, as Pablo Barrios brought down Dani Olmo, but Robert Lewandowski sent the spot-kick to Row Z.

Shortly after, Oblak made a brilliant save to deny Lewandowski’s point-blank header from finding the back of the net.

Raphinha squandered a big chance to give Barcelona the lead early in the second half, firing wide from a promising position.

Dani Olmo completed the turnaround for the hosts, drilling his effort beyond the outstretched Oblak after Atleti failed to clear their lines.

Thiago Almada should have restored parity for Atleti when he was put through on goal, flummoxed his markers, and evaded Garcia, only to send his effort wide.

Ferran Torres sealed the victory for the defending champions in stoppage time after a great team move, sending the home fans into delirium.

Atleti have now missed the chance to beat both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the same La Liga season for the second time in this century.
