So far this summer, FC Barcelona have only been able to make one major signing for the first team. Anthony Gordon, formerly a player for Newcastle United in the English Premier League, remains the only major acquisition so far.
However, it seems that the Catalan giants are now ready to take their next step and ensure the arrival of another key signing. The player in question is none other than Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo, who has already played for the Catalan giants before on two separate occasions during two different loan spells.
Now, however, it seems that La Blaugrana will look to permanently retain his services. According to Victor Navarro, Barcelona have already reached an agreement with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal for the permanent transfer of the 32-year-old player.
Currently, his rights are owned by Al-Hilal as he has an active contract with them that expires in 2027. However, it seems clear enough to all parties now that the player wants to join Barça and the club wants him as well. At the moment, as per the journalist, only the player’s signature is now left to complete the deal.
Further information has been provided by COPE, and their report states that the deal would be worth around €10 million in terms of what the team from Spain would have to pay to acquire his services. Moreover, the player is reportedly expected to sign a contract for the next two years with the Catalan giants.
Following the elimination of the Portuguese National team from the FIFA World Cup, the operation was reportedly accelerated immediately. Now, it seems that the permanent arrival of Cancelo at Barcelona is imminent and should not take much longer to be completed. Furthermore, the report even suggested that the player’s arrival was something that Hansi Flick himself demanded and the German coach reportedly considers him a key player for the challenges that await his team in the upcoming season.
