According to Sport, Barcelona are tracking Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and believe they could beat Real Madrid to his signing despite Madrid’s buyback option.
Munoz has been one of La Liga’s breakout performers after joining Osasuna from Real Madrid for €5m last summer. Nine months later he earned a first Spain cap and scored on debut in a 3-0 win over Serbia.
Interest has grown at home and abroad. Sunderland bid €25m in January, which the 22-year-old rejected, while Osasuna want his full €40m release clause and Madrid hold an €8m buyback.
Osasuna are said to be open to negotiating, and if Barcelona agreed a deal before Madrid triggered their clause, Madrid would be limited to a 50% sell-on from the transfer. Madrid do not want to see him at Barcelona, a club he also played for at academy level.
Several hurdles remain. Signings in Barcelona rarely stay secret, the left-wing role is only third or fourth on their summer list, and Munoz is one of several options, so a quick move appears unlikely. Madrid, meanwhile, appear set on bringing him back.
