The future of Barcelona defender and second captain Ronald Araujo has been a major topic of discussion in recent days in Catalonia.

Having recently recovered from an injury and made his comeback, the Uruguayan international is attracting serious interest from Juventus in Italy.

The Bianconeri are considering signing Araujo on a loan deal until the end of the season with a purchase clause.

Even though Araujo has been seen as a pillar of Barça’s present and future, the fact that his contract expires in 2026 and he has yet to agree to renew is forcing the club to consider the possibility of a departure.

Araujo likely on his way out

In fact, according to journalist Helena Condis, as things stand, sources close to Araujo suggest that he is ‘more out than in’ at Barcelona.

The Blaugrana have already received significant interest from Juventus and are open to offers from other clubs.

However, the Catalan side has made it clear that they will not entertain loan deals – only permanent transfers, with a minimum asking price of €50 million for their ace defender.

After missing the first part of the season due to injury, Araujo, a key player for Barcelona in recent seasons, has found himself behind Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez in Hansi Flick’s pecking order.

This change in status has left him frustrated, particularly as Barça are also pursuing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer for the summer.

This weekend’s Spanish Super Cup clash against Real Madrid could further define how things go for Araujo – if he does not play or start, he could get closer to the exit doors.

As such, the likelihood of the Uruguayan international leaving the Catalans appears high, although whether Juventus or any other club is willing to muster up the €50 million+ transfer fee that Barcelona want for him remains to be seen.
