Barcelona came from behind to beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 at the Metropolitano and move another step closer to the La Liga title.

The result lifts Barça onto 76 points and opens up a seven-point gap over second-placed Real Madrid, while Atlético remain in the top four on 57 points.

Barcelona started brightly, with Lamine Yamal at the heart of everything early on. The teenager produced a brilliant nutmeg before threading a superb outside-of-the-boot pass through to Fermín, but Juan Musso reacted sharply to keep the effort out.

Atlético responded in style and took the lead soon after. Robin Le Normand picked out Giuliano Simeone with a clever ball in behind the defence, and the forward finished confidently to put the hosts ahead.

Barça were level before the break, though, as Marcus Rashford led a quick counter-attack down the left, combined neatly with Dani Olmo and fired a low finish past Musso to make it 1-1. Moments later, Atlético were reduced to ten men when Nico Gonzalez was shown a red card after halting Yamal on the break. A second potential dismissal early in the second half was overturned following a VAR review, with Gerard Martín’s red card downgraded to a yellow.

Barcelona dominated the second half as they pushed for a winner, with Yamal again going close after a brilliant individual run. The decisive moment eventually arrived late on when João Cancelo burst into the box and forced a save from Musso. Robert Lewandowski reacted quickest to the rebound, steering the ball home to secure a huge win that edges Barcelona even closer to the title.
