Barcelona have been boosted for Sunday afternoon’s home game against Sevilla, with Gavi cleared to rejoin the squad. The club said the 21-year-old has received medical clearance, leaving him in line to be involved at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The midfielder has not played since mid-August, when knee surgery was required on the same joint damaged by his ACL injury in 2023. He featured only in the first two matches of the season, against Mallorca and Levante.
A February return had been pencilled in, but Barcelona opted for caution to avoid setbacks. That patience has now brought him back into contention.
The timing matters for a stretched midfield, with Frenkie de Jong injured and Pedri and Marc Bernal short of rest between games. Hansi Flick does not plan to rush Gavi into a regular starting role, instead intending to reintroduce him gradually, as with Bernal earlier in the season.
Whether he appears on Sunday could depend on the match situation. If the game is tight, he might not be risked.
