An alarming piece of news surrounding La Liga giants Barcelona’s European prospects for next season has this week surfaced online.

This comes amid the revelation that the Blaugrana could be facing up to a sanction on the part of UEFA.

According to Marca, citing The Times, Joan Laporta and the Camp Nou board have been found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules for the 2nd year running.

Premier League clubs Chelsea and Aston Villa have been found guilty of similar offences, but are not facing up to as serious a punishment, as first-time offenders.

For Barcelona, though, the situation is a serious one, amid claims that the Catalan club’s campaign in the Champions League in 2025/26 could be majorly hampered.

As per Marca:

‘According to The Times, the punishment Barça faces could include registering a smaller squad, meaning a limit on the number of players they can register in the competition, or a loss of points next season.’

It is added that UEFA intend to ‘report details of the teams that have not complied with the financial rules in the coming weeks’, at which point Barca could discover the extent of their sanction.
