Renewal until 2030 imminent

However, according to SPORT, Eric Garcia’s contract extension with Barcelona could be finalised before the close of the summer window.

The versatile defender is poised to sign a new deal until 2030, with both player and club fully aligned on the terms.

Talks between Barcelona and García’s representatives have advanced significantly in recent months, with head coach Hansi Flick playing a decisive role.

The German values the La Masia trainee’s versatility and reliability, insisting he is an essential member of the squad.

Garcia has repaid that faith by stepping up consistently, even earning a starting place in Barça’s league opener against Mallorca ahead of Kounde.

Although his loan at Girona last season had left him contemplating a longer stay in red and white, Garcia’s situation at Barça has been transformed, especially since the turn of the year.

Now an important figure in Flick’s squad, he is competing for a central role following the departure of Inigo Martinez. While Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi form the current first-choice pairing, Garcia is ready to fight for minutes both in central defence and at full-back.

With his current deal set to expire in June 2026, Barcelona are keen to finalise the renewal promptly.

Unlike De Jong’s more complex negotiations, Garcia’s extension is expected to be straightforward, with optimism on both sides that the deal will be sealed before the window shuts.
