La Liga giants Barcelona are giving consideration to making use of a prior deal with Sporting CP to reduce the cost of the potential signing of Viktor Gyökeres.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.
It is of course common knowledge at this point that frontman Gyökeres is high on the transfer shortlist at Barcelona at present.
Amid nothing short of a spectacular opening to the campaign on the part of the Swede, Deco and co. have identified Gyökeres as the first-choice replacement for the aging Robert Lewandowski in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Thrashing out a deal with Sporting, though, will prove no easy task.
Amid rival interest on the part of a number of leading clubs from across the continent, Barcelona will likely need to get creative in their efforts to coax the Portuguese champions into a sale.
And, as alluded to above, on Tuesday, an insight into one potential avenue towards as much has been provided.
As per a report from Sport:
‘Deco would like to use the Francisco Trincão card to position himself favourably for the future of Gyökeres.’
Barcelona maintain both a buyback option and a hefty 50% sell-on clause on Trincão, following his sale to Sporting in the summer of 2023.
With Trincão attracting outside interest of his own amid a fine start to the season, the Blaugrana could, in turn, offer to surrender one or both of these clauses, to secure an advantage in the Gyökeres race.
