At long last, FC Barcelona played against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. Heading into this game, there was a lot of pressure on both teams to deliver. Ultimately, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side managed to do what was needed to win.
With a rather rusty performance, one filled with vulnerabilities and tiredness, La Blaugrana were constantly reminded throughout the game that Real Madrid could hurt them at any moment. Still, Barça somehow stayed in the game through sheer grit and determination.
Thanks to a sensational strike from Pedri, a wonderful goal by Ferran Torres, and an outrageous game-winning goal from Jules Kounde, Barcelona are now officially the 2025 Copa del Rey champions. Led by Hansi Flick, the team continues their dream of a treble.
For many reasons, the path to a potential treble either started here or ended here. Fortunately for Barcelona, it has now fully taken off with this recent 3-2 victory. While the performance across the board was not perfect, it was still courageous enough for the team to deliver the goods.

With players injured and tactics needing to be adjusted, it was clear to see that this El Clasico would not be like the other ones. Still, one way or another, Barcelona kept adding goals to their tally despite the fact that they conceded twice as well.
Now, Barça’s objective turns towards the UEFA Champions League, where Italian side Inter Milan waits for them. Still, it does not hurt to celebrate the fact that Barcelona are this year’s champions of the Copa del Rey, and they have defeated their eternal rivals in order to make that a reality for themselves.
Hansi Flick’s perfect record in cup finals remains in tact, and Barcelona manage to add another major title to their history. However, the game itself showcased that this team has vulnerabilities that need to be sorted out as well.
During the first-half, Barça had 63% of the possession but only managed to generate an xG of 0.63, which was better than Real Madrid’s 0.06. In the second half, Los Blancos improved and generated an xG of 0.66. Barcelona, on the other hand, generated a superior xG of 0.80 while having 63% of the possession yet again.
Still, the goals that they ended up scoring came out of individual brilliance. From Pedri’s long-distance strike to Jules Kounde’s goal from a similar range, the Barcelona players really needed to step up and show that they had what it takes to win matches out of nothing. From what they delivered, it seems they really do have what it takes.
