Hansi Flick's men were very much on the front foot across the opening 15 minutes of action in Sevilla despite the absence of key striker Robert Lewandowski, with the first blow on the night coming in the 11th minute of action after Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy had to be subbed off due to injury.

While Ancelotti's troops certainly seemed far more timid on the night, Barcelona were unable to break the deadlock until Pedri stepped up with a fantastic strike in the 28th minute with a bending effort to beat Thibaut Courtois from beyond 20 yards.

Real Madrid received a shot in the arm during the interval and looked revitalised as the second half raged on, with the introduction of Kylian Mbappé just before the restart unsurprisingly adding more teeth to their attack.

The French star would go on to deliver a sensational equaliser from a well-struck free-kick in the 70th minute after originally being hauled down during the run of play to set up the dead-ball chance.

Mbappé, who now sits on 34 goals across his debut season, showed precisely why the club secured his services in the summer as the former PSG man helped Real Madrid up their performance levels considerably after his introduction.

A headed goal from Aurélien Tchouaméni in the 77th minute would briefly gift Real Madrid the lead on the night before being canceled out by Ferran Torres seven minutes later.

Stoppage time drama would ensue after Raphinha was initially ruled to have been brought down in the box by Raul Asencio before VAR would controversially overturn the call from referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea as the two sides headed for extra time.

Apart from a handful of short jabs from either side, both seemed happy to settle into the inevitability of a penalty shootout before Jules Koundé stepped up and smashed his first-ever El Clásico goal from a low drive past Courtois from outside of the box in the 116th minute.

That goal would bookend the night in Andalusia, with Barcelona banking their 32nd Copa del Rey triumph across their illustrious history.
