Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United just before the World Cup and have now reached an agreement to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund.

This leaves Hansi Flick with a number of options for the forward line, and the club still harbour dreams of signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.

What this could mean is one of the attackers leaving the club this summer, and it emerged that PSG were in advanced talks with Ferran Torres over a transfer.

Barcelona were said to have set a price tag of around €50 million for the Spanish striker, even though he has just one year left on his current contract.

Now, according to Alex Pintanel, despite talks taking place with PSG, him staying at Barcelona is not yet ruled out.

Luis Enrique is understood to be an important figure behind the French club’s interest, although negotiations are expected to continue only after the World Cup ends.

PSG interest does not guarantee an exit

The connection with Luis Enrique is easy to understand. The PSG coach knows Ferran well and has previously trusted him at international level, so his interest gives the operation a clear sporting logic.

However, talks between a player and an interested club do not mean Barcelona have decided to sell.

The Catalan club know the value Ferran brings to the squad and could look to accelerate contract negotiations with him once the World Cup ends.

Hansi Flick has always placed his trust in the Spaniard, and he even started important games ahead of Robert Lewandowski last season.

Barcelona still value Ferran

Ferran still offers useful qualities. He can play across the frontline, attacks the penalty area well and has shown he can contribute goals without always being a guaranteed starter.

His future may depend on whether he is comfortable competing for minutes and whether Flick sees him as an important part of the rotation.

There is also a strong argument for continuity. Ferran understands the club, the league and Flick’s demands, while replacing a proven squad player is not always simple.

If Barça sell Ferran and are unable to sign Julian Alvarez, it leaves them without a striker in the squad, and that would be even more catastrophic.

PSG’s interest is real, but the situation remains open. Barcelona may listen if a major offer arrives, yet Ferran staying seems like the wiser choice.

It remains to be seen how the negotiations pan out after the World Cup and whether Deco can convince Ferran to extend his contract and stay at Barcelona.
