Marcus Rashford delivered a clear message to Barcelona supporters, sporting director Deco, and president Joan Laporta after scoring twice in the club’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in their Champions League opener.
Starting his third game of the season, the 27-year-old Manchester United loanee buried a header to open the scoring in the second half, before unleashing a powerful rocket of an effort from the edge of the box to double his goal tally.
Rashford is on loan at Barcelona, with the Catalans retaining a permanent purchase option worth around €30 million.
And, speaking to the media after the match, the England international made it abundantly clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona for as long as possible.
“I want to stay here as long as possible. We’ll see if I can do it. I just have to focus on doing my job and helping the team in any way I can. Today is a very good day, but we have to do it again this weekend,” said Rashford, as quoted by SPORT.

The forward expressed gratitude to Hansi Flick, who had praised him publicly after the match, for the trust and confidence shown in him.
“I feel Flick’s confidence. I knew he was a top coach before I came here, but working with him is a pleasure. I hope the good relationship continues throughout the season,” Rashford stated.
The 27-year-old was equally effusive about his teammates at Barcelona, admitting that it was a joy to play with them.
“I’m very excited to play for this team. I’m very motivated and determined. The quality of this team excites me a lot,” he said.
“It’s refreshing to play with these guys because they’re very young, they play with confidence and a special understanding of the game. You can see it’s not easy to play here, especially because they try to play the way they play.“
Concluding, Rashford said: ”Honestly, playing for Barcelona is an incredible experience, I’ve always been a big fan of this club.”
