Barcelona hope deal to re-sign defender will be finalised next week

Barcelona have been relatively busy in the transfer market this summer, although they have failed to add to Anthony Gordon in the last few weeks. Nevertheless, there is a feeling that agreements are coming, and one of those could be finalised sooner rather than later.

In recent weeks, Barcelona have been pursuing Real Racing Club de Santander defender Jorge Salinas, although a deal is far from straightforward. There is no guarantee that things will be wrapped up before his release clause increases on the 1st of July, but in the meantime, the Catalans are close to bringing in a different left-sided defender.

In January, Barcelona secured an agreement with Uruguayan side Defensor Sporting for Patricio Pacifico. The deal included an obligation to buy if certain objectives were met, but before he got the chance, the teenager devastatingly suffered an ACL injury that will rule him out until the end of 2025.

Nevertheless, Barcelona are committed to re-signing Pacifico on a similar agreement, and according to MD, they hope to close the deal next week. Defensor Sporting are happy to allow the defender to move on another loan, and only the final details remain before everything is completed.

Barcelona have high hopes for Pacifico

The fact that Barcelona are pushing hard to sign a player with a long-term injury just shows how much they like Pacifico. He impressed Barca Atletic coaches prior to tearing his ACL, and he did enough to ensure that he will have another chance to earn a permanent contract with the Catalan giants.

Once a deal is finalised, Pacifico will be able to fully focus on returning to 100% as soon as possible, and he will certainly be notified by the fact that he will still be a Barcelona player by the time he makes his eagerly-anticipated return to the pitch. He could even earn a chance in the first team, especially if Hansi Flick’s left-back woes continue for another season.
