According to a recent report from SPORT, FC Barcelona are in the final stages of negotiations to play a friendly match in Peru this December.

The proposal on the table is said to be financially irresistible, especially after the club’s earlier plans to play in Miami against Villarreal fell through.

That particular fixture was expected to bring in approximately €6 million, so the new opportunity comes at an ideal time for the club’s finances.

The initial news was revealed earlier this month by journalist Gustavo Peralta, who explained that discussions were well underway.

“If Barcelona ends up moving up the paperwork, the December match would be against the Peruvian national team.

“It’s not a FIFA date. I understand that the plan is to play against the Peruvian national team. There would be some names that we could see,” he wrote.

How will Barcelona pull this off?

Barcelona are negotiating directly with a wealthy Peruvian businessman who is keen on bringing the Catalan giants to Lima for the special fixture.

The idea is to host the match at the National Stadium, featuring most of the club’s first-team stars.

Initially, talks suggested that Barcelona might face Universitario or even Alianza Lima, two of Peru’s biggest clubs.

However, recent negotiations appear to have shifted focus toward the Peruvian national team.

Since it will not fall under an official FIFA window, the national team could take advantage of the occasion to test several young prospects.

What about the finances?

Financially, this deal looks promising. Reports suggest that Barcelona could earn between €7 and €8 million from the trip.

President Joan Laporta has reportedly already informed the coaching staff and players about the potential match and its lucrative upside.

However, final approval will depend on discussions between Barcelona, the Spanish football authorities, and the AFE (Spanish Players’ Association).
