FC Barcelona have had quite a good FIFA World Cup 2026. Up to eight of their players have made their way to the final, all of them with Spain, who will face Argentina in the ultimate game of the tournament.
However, one problem that it could have caused the Blaugranes was through the midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who played some games in this tournament with physical problems. He was set to undergo tests at Barcelona after the end of his World Cup journey, and there was significant concern at the Catalan club that he might have a serious injury.
Fortunately, SPORT cites the journalist Raul Salmurri to report that the initial tests on the Dutchman have already been carried out, and these tests confirm that the player is not facing a cruciate ligament rupture.
While the worst has been avoided, the midfielder is still suffering from a significant problem, and how he will recover from this problem remains to be decided. He has both options, undergoing surgery or taking a conservative recovery route, available, and the player and the club will jointly decide what will be the best course of action for him.
With this latest assessment, it is now clear that the Dutch star will not have to spend up to 6 months on the sidelines. His recovery period is set to remain around four months, but this will ultimately depend on what recovery process he chooses.
While Frenkie de Jong recovers from his injury, these developments are not expected to change Deco’s plans. Marc Casado will remain open to a sale, but Hansi Flick has been monitoring the youngster Brian Farinas in recent training sessions to assess his level, in case he has to play with the first team while the Dutchman is still unavailable due to this injury.
