Andres Iniesta, the legendary former Barcelona footballer, is expected to announce his retirement from the sport on October 8, as per reports carried by Mundo Deportivo.

The former FC Barcelona captain and hero of Spain’s 2010 World Cup triumph shared a video on social media indicating that he will reveal his future plans on that date.

The video features street artist TV Boy creating a design of Iniesta with his iconic number 8 turned into the infinity symbol, suggesting that the Barcelona icon is ready to hang up his boots after a storied career filled with achievements.

Since parting ways with the Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates on July 1, Iniesta has been without a team, and there has been little news regarding his future.

According to the report, the 40-year-old Iniesta is now indeed set to retire, despite having expressed only weeks ago his desire to continue playing.

Iniesta is celebrated as one of the greatest legends of Barcelona, where he won virtually every title available.

His impressive trophy cabinet includes nine La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, six Copa del Rey victories, three UEFA Super Cups, seven Spanish Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups.

On the international stage, he was instrumental in Spain’s triumphs at the 2010 World Cup -where he scored the winning goal in the final – and the UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

As fans and football enthusiasts eagerly await his announcement, Iniesta’s legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats remains firmly secured.

The 40-year-old legend has previously hinted that he would like to return to Barcelona at some point in the future in some capacity. With retirement now imminent, it will be interesting to see if he does come back to the club in a new role after having left in 2018.
