Barcelona make contact with 20-year-old Ligue 1 winger’s agent amid Premier League interest | OneFootball

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona have intensified their search for a top-quality winger and have turned their attention to Malick Fofana of Olympique Lyon. 

The Catalan club’s scouting department has been monitoring the youngster closely and consider him one of the most exciting attacking prospects in Ligue 1.

It is said that one of the key priorities for Hansi Flick is to strengthen the left wing, a position that has been under review for several months. 

Marcus Rashford has been providing goals and creativity since arriving on loan from Manchester United, but with no guarantee that he will continue beyond this season, Barcelona are preparing alternatives.

Who is Malick Fofana?

Fofana has quickly emerged as one of the favourites among Barcelona scouts, thanks to his mix of speed, dribbling ability, and tactical awareness. 

The club have reportedly initiated talks with his representatives to understand the feasibility of a potential deal next summer. 

What works in Barcelona’s favour is Lyon’s ongoing financial struggles, which could force the French side to cash in on their brightest star at the end of the season.

The Belgian winger’s versatility adds to his appeal. Although naturally right-footed, Fofana is most comfortable operating as a left winger.

He is also capable of playing on the right flank, though that position is already well covered at Barça.

Already a regular for Lyon

In the current campaign, Fofana has made 12 appearances across Ligue 1 and the Europa League, totalling 888 minutes of action in which he has scored two goals and registered one assist. 

For what it is worth, Barcelona are not alone in this pursuit, with Liverpool and Arsenal also expressing concrete interest. 

However, Barça’s sporting department believe the player’s style of play and age profile align perfectly with the club’s project under Flick.

Given the uncertain future of Rashford and Barcelona’s need to secure long-term options for the left flank, Fofana certainly represents a smart investment.
