Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has shared his thoughts on Real Madrid’s public statement about referees, taking a calm and empathetic approach towards the challenges referees face.
Flick appeared visibly uncomfortable discussing the matter and expressed that Barcelona prefers to handle such issues differently. He emphasised that their way of operating does not involve public statements about match officials.
“To be honest, I don’t want to talk about this. It’s their choice, they’ve done it that way and it’s not our style,” he said as quoted by SPORT.
Flick maintained a firm stance, stressing that every coach has their reasons for speaking out, but referees are also human and prone to mistakes like anyone else.

“I, at least, wouldn’t do it like that. Each coach has his reasons for saying certain things. We are human and we make mistakes, it is normal in life.”
He acknowledged the difficult nature of their job and suggested that instead of criticising them, the football community should support and understand the challenges they face.
“Everyone makes mistakes and referees have a very hard job. We have to take care of them because the situation they have is not easy,” he noted.
When pressed further on whether Madrid’s statement reflected a lack of respect for referees, Flick responded cautiously, reiterating that he had already made his stance clear. He expressed no interest in making excuses or pointing fingers.
“I’ve already said it all, when I arrived I said ok, there are no excuses or complaints.”
With his thoughtful remarks, Flick decided to stay out of any sort of controversy while keeping his professionalism intact.
His message was clear — accountability and improvement are the keys to success.
