Barcelona have announced their starting eleven against CA Osasuna tonight, and while all eyes will be on the in-form Ferran Torres, another player worth watching is Pedri.
It is a special game for the Spanish international, who will be making his 150th La Liga appearance for Barcelona at the age of just 23.
To be specific, Pedri has approached this landmark at the age of 23 years and 18 days, making him the youngest ever Barcelona player to play in 150 league matches for the club.
By doing so, Pedri has now overtaken the legendary Lionel Messi, who previously held the record of being the youngest player to achieve the feat.
Messi had made his 150th La Liga appearance against Real Zaragoza back in 2010. By the time he left Barcelona in 2021, he had accumulated 520 league matches for Barça.
Nonetheless, Pedri will go into the record books for being the youngest to achieve 150 matches in the league with Barcelona.
However, his record might not last for too long. While Messi’s record lasted 15 years, Pedri’s record could be broken in a matter of up to three seasons. That is because of a certain Lamine Yamal.
At the age of 18, Yamal has already featured in 123 competitive matches for Barcelona, among which 85 have come in La Liga. Tonight will be his 86th La Liga appearance.
By the end of this season, Yamal, if he can avoid injuries, can easily reach 100 appearances in the league for Barcelona.
From then on, if he can at least make 25 appearances on average for the next couple of seasons, he can break Pedri’s record at just age 20.
