FC Barcelona have suffered a series of injuries so far this season. This has brought to light the lack of quality back-ups in Hansi Flick’s squad, and left-back is one position that needs some reinforcement.
Gerard Martin has done very well in the limited opportunities he has received. However, the Spaniard is restricted in what he can offer the team, and the dynamic on the left flank suffers in Alejandro Balde’s absence.
During pre-season, Hansi Flick trialled Jofre Torrents in that role, but the youngster has since returned to the reserve team to continue his development. One player now on Deco’s radar is Alejandro Grimaldo. However, they are not alone.
According to Fichajes, Bayern Munich are also actively pursuing the talented full-back. The Bavarian giants have been exploring options to strengthen their defense and view Grimaldo as a perfect fit. His defensive reliability, attacking contributions, and competitive maturity make him a highly sought-after player.
The Report also suggests that Bayern are willing to offer up to €30 million, a figure that Bayer Leverkusen considers reasonable. Despite this, Leverkusen’s reluctance to reinforce a direct rival may complicate the deal and increase the likelihood of the player considering a move back to Spain.
Leverkusen’s stance adds another dimension. While they value the €30 million-rated Spanish full-back highly, they are reportedly willing to facilitate a return to Spain but reluctant to strengthen a direct German rival. This opens a potential window for Barcelona, whose emotional appeal may counter Bayern’s financial clout.
While Bayern have the financial power to compete, Barcelona could appeal to the player’s desire to return to La Liga and his ties to the club where he began his career.
Beating Bayern Munich to the player’s signature will not be easy, given the German club’s resources. However, Barcelona can look to tug on Grimaldo’s heartstrings to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou. Let us wait and see how things play out.
