In a huge development, journalist Ben Jacobs reports that FC Barcelona and Newcastle United have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Anthony Gordon.
The deal is set to be closed for a transfer fee of around £70 million (~€80 million) plus bonuses, with the England winger set to become the Catalans’ first summer signing.
In fact, the deal is so advanced that Barcelona have already pencilled Gordon in for his medicals this week.

The aim is to finalise the transfer before the FIFA World Cup kicks off in a couple of weeks, and everything suggests that the Catalans will be able to do so.
Gordon, for his part, has already agreed personal terms with the La Liga champions, meaning the medical will be the last formality once the agreement between the two clubs is full and final.
Bayern Munich also held an interest in Gordon and had even agreed terms with the 25-year-old. But Barcelona have acted swiftly and have been able to close the deal.
Liverpool also wanted the former Everton man, but never made a move.

As already reported, there was a full consensus within the Barcelona hierarchy regarding a move for Gordon.
From president Joan Laporta, to director Deco, and manager Hansi Flick, everyone was on board with the operation.
Flick, in particular, is understood to have given his approval for the deal a few days ago as he sees the England international as a good stylistic fit into his team.
Now, Gordon is on the verge of becoming a Barcelona player after an impressive season with Newcastle during which he scored 17 goals – ten of which came in the Champions League.
