Barcelona receive notice of Atlético complaint over Julián Álvarez | OneFootball

Barcelona have received formal notice of Atlético Madrid’s complaint to the RFEF and FIFA over alleged talks with Julián Álvarez, who is under contract at the Metropolitano until 2030. According to Superdeporte, the update sits on the disciplinary side rather than any immediate transfer.

The RFEF, led by Rafael Louzán, has opened a case and given Barcelona several days to submit their arguments. Club lawyers are preparing a response to defend Barcelona’s interests.

Atlético chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil said in mid June that the club would file a FIFA complaint alleging Barcelona negotiated during the protected period. The complaint was formalised weeks later and has now been passed to Barcelona.

Within Barcelona, the view is that the case lacks substance. They note Álvarez publicly signalled a desire to leave and that, days later, Barcelona tabled a 100 million euros offer that is due to expire. Atlético acknowledge the complaint is based on indications rather than proof of direct contact.

Álvarez remains Deco’s priority to strengthen Hansi Flick’s number nine position. Atlético have made clear they do not wish to negotiate with Barcelona over the forward. The Argentina international, a World Cup finalist, is due to report for pre-season under Diego Simeone on 10 August.

Another push from the player could help to unlock a deal, though the operation still looks highly complex. Barcelona are also exploring alternatives to avoid being left without cover for Robert Lewandowski this summer. During the World Cup, Álvarez said a transfer would be best for all and that he wanted to fulfil his dream, a public step that ignited the saga.
