Barcelona see veteran free agent as a good ‘opportunity’, Flick yet to be convinced – report | OneFootball

Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona appear to be heading towards their first major haul of the summer in Anthony Gordon, and the English winger is said to be a direct request of the coach himself.

Deco and Co., however, have no intention of stopping there and are determined to make ground-breaking recruitments this summer to boost Flick’s squad.

The midfield, on that front, is a department that can be reinforced should a good market opportunity arise and some key figures within the club feel they have identified the best prospect.

As reported by RAC1, Barcelona now see Bernardo Silva as a good market opportunity because he is available as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Manchester City and officially bidding the club adieu.

The hurdle, however, is that Flick is not convinced by the idea as he feels he already has sufficient players in midfield and that adding another big name may complicate the dressing room scenario.

Silva, for his part, is very keen on playing for Barcelona and is willing to do what it takes to get a chance to represent the club. The limiting factor, however, is convincing Flick of his arrival.

Much-needed experience

While Barcelona may indeed not require a player of the exact profile that Silva brings, one factor that may convince Flick is the experience he brings to the table.

Part of the reason why Robert Lewandowski was so loved and essential in the locker room was the experience he brought to help the young talents develop. His departure, needless to say, creates a void in that sense.

Coming in as a successful former captain of Manchester City, the Portuguese star can bring to Catalonia the revered experienced campaigner profile – one that the current team direly lacks and stands to gain from.
