Despite the club’s efforts in the market, Barcelona’s financial situation surrounding the Camp Nou renovation has taken a significant turn.
And now, in a major development, it appears the Catalans are set to request a substantial additional injection of funds to complete the ambitious Espai Barca project.
According to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona will ask for between €400 million and €500 million on top of the €1.45 billion already secured from a group of investors led by Goldman Sachs.

As previously reported, Barcelona had already acknowledged that the initial loan was running short of what was needed to complete the full scope of the project.
Neither the Spotify Camp Nou renovation nor the other facilities that make up Espai Barca, including the Palau Blaugrana and the development of the area surrounding the old Les Corts stadium, have been finished within the original budget.
Construction delays and costs exceeding initial projections have left the club in a position where additional credit is now unavoidable.

Joan Laporta’s board is expected to bring the request to either the Extraordinary General Meeting planned for next July, where the president-elect will also appoint his new governing body, or the Ordinary General Meeting at the start of next season.
The Camp Nou is currently in the middle of its phased renovation, with the VIP tier work expected to run until the summer of 2027.
The final stage involving the compression rings and roof installation will require the team to temporarily relocate at the start of the 2027-28 season.
For a club simultaneously pursuing major signings including Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva, the additional financial burden is something they could have done without.
