Barcelona star benched on international duty

A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has dropped to the bench for his country’s latest outing.
The player in question? Robert Lewandowski.
Frontman Lewandowski is for his part of course fresh off an outing to forget at club level this past weekend.
En route to Barcelona being put to the sword by four goals to one at Sevilla, the former Bayern Munich man missed a glorious opportunity to level things up from the penalty spot late on.
This added to what has been a hit-and-miss opening to the campaign all told on Lewandowski’s part.
And as alluded to above, on Thursday, such inconsistencies have been reflected on the international front.
Lewandowski’s Poland are primed to return to action in short order, in a friendly meeting with New Zealand.
The 37-year-old, though, will be forced to watch on from the bench, having been left out of his country’s XI for the evening:
