Barcelona summer signing Anthony Gordon has this week drawn a comparison between international teammate Harry Kane, and Blaugrana legend Lionel Messi.
This of course comes fresh off another performance to remember for frontman Kane on Wednesday.
England were back in action at the World Cup yesterday evening, locking horns with African outfit DR Congo in a Round-of-32 clash.
And after the Three Lions fell into a shock one-goal hole, captain Kane stepped up when it mattered most. After first nodding home a 2nd-half equaliser, the Bayern Munich man drove an unstoppable effort high into the net to secure a 2-1 win for his country late on.
His latest haul means that Kane has now found the net a staggering 72 times for club and country this season.
Only eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has managed more across the length of a single campaign in the history of football (82).
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of England’s latest victory, the aforementioned Anthony Gordon was therefore keen to draw attention to this fact:
“Harry Kane is having a season that only has ever been beaten by Leo Messi, the greatest footballer of all time.”
