Barcelona midfielder Gavi continues complaining about the referee after a 7-6 aggregate loss against Inter: ‘They didn’t want us to reach the final because they were scared of the season we are having.’

Barcelona suffered a 7-6 aggregate defeat to Inter in the Champions League semifinals and have been highly critical of referee Szymon Marciniak.

After the game, several Barcelona players, coach Hansi Flick, and even President Joan Laporta blamed the Polish official. Spain international Gavi was the last to vent his frustration on social media.

“It’s really tough, especially knowing how close we were. They didn’t want us to reach the final because they were scared of the season we are having,” Gavi wrote in an Instagram story via Mundo Deportivo.

“It doesn’t matter how many years we’ve gone without winning the Champions League, even if I know it’s hard and I wish we could win it every year.

“I’m sure we’ll win it ig we stick together. I know it will come. No matter how frustrated we are now, we can still finish this season by winning three tiles, something nobody expected before the start of the season.”

Flick and Gavi’s teammate Pedri argued that “every 50-50 decision went in Inter’s favour” and the Spain international argued that Henrikh Mkhitaryan should have received a yellow card before being booked for a foul on Lamine Yamal in the second half.

Inter will meet PSG in the Champions League Final at the Allianz Arena in Munich on May 31.

It will be Inter’s second Champions League Final in the last three years.

The Nerazzurri lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in Istanbul in 2023.
