Barcelona star turns down international call-up | OneFootball

A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona recently turned down an international call-up on the part of his home country.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Wojciech Szczęsny as the player in question.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny has of course spent the last couple of months establishing himself as the new first-choice option between the posts in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad.

After initially being brought in to act as cover for Iñaki Peña following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old has more than proven himself to the Blaugrana coaching staff.

All told, Szczęsny has racked up 15 appearances across all competitions, yet to fall to a single defeat.

And such exploits, it is understood, recently saw the former Juventus man afforded the chance to step out of international retirement, too.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Poland national team coach, Michal Probierz, called Szczęsny, but he declined the offer. He’s focused on Barcelona, ​​a club that wants to extend his contract for another season.’
