In addition to these attacking signings, the Catalans are also working on one defensive operation in particular, i.e., the fullback Joao Cancelo. Flick has expressly asked Barcelona to land the Portuguese defender after having been impressed by his performances in the second half of the last season, which the player spent on loan at the Blaugrana club.

Negotiations between the defender, the Blaugrana club, and his current club, Al-Hilal, are progressing gradually, and the La Liga side is hoping to complete this signing in the coming few days for a fee of around €8-10 million.

The two clubs are ironing out the final details of this transfer, and the fullback’s own insistence on returning to Barcelona has been the key that has unlocked this transfer. Once an agreement is reached between the clubs, the Portuguese veteran will sign a two-year contract, which will keep him in Flick’s squad till 2028.

The Barcelona sporting department was very impressed with Joao Cancelo during his second loan stint at their club, particularly with his experience and versatility, while his familiarity with the dressing room will also mean that he will adapt immediately to Flick’s team. Hansi Flick is hoping to have him available as soon as possible, and there is no doubt that he will be a very important signing for the Blaugrana team.
