Barcelona take decisive step to secure Hansi Flick’s future | OneFootball

Barcelona are already laying the groundwork to secure the long-term future of Hansi Flick, but the manager is in no rush to make it official just yet.

According to a report by Carlos Monfort in SPORT, the club has started taking concrete steps towards a contract renewal, signalling strong confidence in the current project.

The first signs of movement came over the weekend, when sporting director Deco held talks with influential agent Pini Zahavi in Barcelona. 

The meeting, described as informal, allowed both parties to discuss Flick’s situation and the broader direction of the team.

Everything is on track

Shortly after, Flick himself also met Zahavi, which reinforced the idea that discussions are progressing, even if quietly. 

Even so, Barcelona have already made their intentions clear to the coach’s inner circle that they want him to continue well beyond his current deal.

Flick is currently under contract until 2027, but following Joan Laporta’s recent presidential victory, stability has returned at the top level of the club.

That clarity is now translating into long-term planning, with Flick seen as a central figure in Barcelona’s sporting vision.

Despite the positive momentum, the German is choosing patience over haste. 

Fully settled in the city and comfortable within the club environment, Flick is said to be prioritising the season over contract talks at this stage.

So what now?

There is a clear understanding between all parties. Barcelona are extremely pleased with the work done so far, and, internally, there is a belief that an extension could be wrapped up quickly if needed. 

However, Flick prefers to let the season develop further before committing to formal negotiations.

Encouragingly, this situation is less about uncertainty and more about timing. 

This means Barcelona want Flick, and Flick is open to staying. Now, it is simply a matter of choosing the right moment to make it official.
