Julian Alvarez is one of the forwards that FC Barcelona are monitoring for the upcoming summer transfer window, despite his mixed run of form at Atletico Madrid this season.

The Argentine is being seen as the top target to replace Robert Lewandowski in the Blaugrana squad.

And, with the Barcelona presidential elections approaching, several pre-candidates could be tempted to use his name as an electoral asset.

In fact, reports earlier today even suggested that one of the candidates had already approached Alvarez’s camp.

Alvarez’s agent shuts down rumours

However, Alvarez and his entourage are becoming tired of the constant rumours and have clearly distanced themselves from any information that may emerge in the coming weeks and that they cannot control.

Indeed, the Argentine striker’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, was very clear regarding reports linking the player with Barcelona or with any Barcelona pre-candidate.

“We have never spoken to any candidate for the presidency of Barcelona and everything that is being said about it is not true,” the agent told Egyptian outlet ‘winwin’ (h/t SPORT).

Hidalgo reiterated that Alvarez is not currently on the market and that his focus is on performing at the highest level for Atletico, where he has a long-term contract.

“Julian has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2030, and anyone who wants to sign him must contact the club, not us,” he stated.

So far this season, Alvarez has managed a return of 11 goals and five assists from 32 matches in all competitions – figures that pale in comparison to his debut season at Atletico Madrid when he scored nearly 30 goals.

Despite his hot-and-cold form this season, Barcelona continue to admire Alvarez and see him as a key target for the summer. However, Atletico Madrid will not give in easily and will make any operation difficult for the World Cup winner.
