Barcelona want to sign a new top-level striker this summer, and for now, their leading target is still Julian Alvarez. However, with Atletico Madrid playing hard-ball, they have drawn up several alternatives, with one of those being Harry Kane.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Barcelona were ready to go all-out to sign Kane after the 2026 World Cup is over. However, this was quickly shut down by the England striker’s representatives, who stated that there are no plans for him to leave Bayern this summer.
Despite this, reports have followed claiming that Kane would be interested in joining Barcelona, although Bayern insider Christian Falk that now dismissed any suggestion that the Catalans will secure his services in similar fashion to Robert Lewandowski four years ago.
“Harry Kane’s representatives were contacted by Barcelona. This was confirmed to me. But I also heard that Barcelona has no chance of snatching Kane from Bayern Munich. He wants to stay in Munich and sign a new contract. However, he doesn’t want to do that right this moment while he’s still competing in the World Cup with the English national team. Regardless, Kane just wants to negotiate with Bayern Munich, and I think they’ll find a solution.”
Barcelona do like Kane, and while they held talks with his representatives to gauge his interest for a possible summer move, it never progressed beyond that. Everyone within the Catalan club is clear that Alvarez is still the leading target, and given that he publicly expressed his desire to leave Atleti last week, there is confidence that a deal will eventually be done.
Barcelona may end up exploring a move for Kane again if he fails to sign a new contract with Bayern – given that his current deal ends in 2027 – but for now, they are set on Alvarez.
