Hansi Flick will remain without Lamine Yamal as he takes his FC Barcelona team to open their new UEFA Champions League campaign with a match against Newcastle United, and there is no doubt the youngster’s absence would be felt dearly.
Still, the Blaugrana coach will have several options to fill in his offensive ranks for this game, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, he has three forwards in particular who have already enjoyed playing and scoring against the Magpies in the past.
These players are Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Marcus Rashford, who have scored a combined total of 11 goals against the Premier League side, all while playing for other Premier League sides.
Ferran Torres boasts the most lethal ratio of the trio. During his time at Manchester City, the Valencian scored four goals in just two appearances against Newcastle, including a stunning hat-trick in the dramatic 3-4 win at St. James’ Park in May 2021.
Raphinha also carries fond memories of facing Newcastle. The Brazilian netted twice in four matches during his spell with Leeds United.
Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, may not have Ferran’s efficiency, but he has the most goals of the trio with five in 15 matches for Manchester United against Newcastle.
Other Barcelona players have also faced Newcastle, though without finding the net. Andreas Christensen played them seven times for Chelsea, while Eric Garcia featured once for Manchester City.
Thus, it remains to be seen whether any of these attackers would be able to improve on their scoring record when they face the English side once again on Wednesday.
