FC Barcelona have been working on several exit operations across the ongoing summer transfer window. However, in recent days, perhaps the most prominent one has been the operation regarding German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Heavily linked to Dutch side Ajax, there have been reports recently suggesting that the player is getting closer to a loan move to the Eredivisie. However, a recent update from Gianluigi Longari claims that the move will not be a loan deal after all.
In fact, his update claims that it will be a permanent transfer for the Barcelona veteran and this would be the end of his time at the Catalan club. Moreover, he has confirmed that the negotiations seem to be advanced and that a final decision is getting closer and closer.
Already having spent the last season on loan at Girona, although he did get injured for the majority of that spell, it seems that there really is no space left for the German shot-stopper at Barça. In his stead, Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia has clearly established himself as one of the best in his position across Europe already.
As for Ter Stegen, his contract is set to run out in 2028 but it seems likely that his time in Catalonia is set to come to an end soon. For Barcelona, it is understood that his departure would clear out a significant part of the salary space and it would be a financially beneficial deal for the club as well.
It remains to be seen if the deal is officially confirmed any time soon or if any other developments end up emerging as well. Only time will tell what the final decision ends up being in regards to his future beyond Barcelona and La Liga. Previously, he has also played in the Bundesliga, so a potential move to Ajax would take him to a completely new league for his next chapter.
