Barcelona’s boardroom rarely sleeps, even amid the noise of a presidential election. According to Marca, sporting director Deco has continued to press ahead with meetings and negotiations, ensuring that planning for next season does not drift. Among those discussions, Marcus Rashford’s name surfaced once again.
In the last few hours, Deco met with the winger’s representatives. The encounter was not exclusively about him, yet it carried enough weight to keep the conversation alive. As reported, “The meeting wasn’t solely focused on the club’s plans for the English winger; they discussed all the players they represent who are linked to Barça, but the future of the international player on loan from United was briefly addressed.”
That brief exchange may yet shape the summer.

Rashford’s loan from Manchester United runs until June. Barcelona hold a €30 million option to make the move permanent. Marca describe the latest discussion as cordial and exploratory, rather than decisive. “The meeting was more of a preliminary contact and, in a way, a courtesy call, but it served to reaffirm the positive rapport between the parties and their shared intentions.”
Intent matters in transfers, particularly when finances are tight. Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, appear content with Rashford’s output. Ten goals and 13 assists from 34 appearances, with 20 starts, represents steady productivity. It also reflects a player adjusting to a new league, new dressing room, and new expectations.
The situation, however, is governed by arithmetic. Marca state clearly that Manchester United are “unwilling to facilitate the player’s departure from La Liga”. There will be no discount, no late bargaining. Barcelona must meet the €30 million clause according to the agreed schedule.
In that sense, the Catalan club’s position is defined by discipline rather than desire. Flick has already offered his approval, declaring, “I’m happy to have Rashford at Barcelona”. The technical staff are aligned. The accounts department will have the final say.
It is worth noting that Rashford himself appears settled. He has adapted to life in the city and in the squad, though he would prefer a more prominent role in Flick’s starting eleven. That ambition feels healthy rather than disruptive.
For now, nothing is signed. “Both parties want to maintain their relationship, but nothing is signed or finalized yet.” The decisive meeting is scheduled for the coming months. Marca suggest the intention is clear, Rashford to remain beyond June, but football has a habit of complicating certainty.
From Barcelona’s perspective, this is a calculated gamble on continuity. From Rashford’s, it is a chance to redefine his prime years in a different shade of red and blue.
From a Manchester United supporter’s standpoint, this report invites mixed emotions. Rashford remains a homegrown figure, a player who carried the side through difficult seasons and delivered defining moments. Seeing him thrive in La Liga, even with modest numbers, stings.
Ten goals and 13 assists in 34 games suggests he still influences matches. The question for United fans is whether the club are prepared to walk away for €30 million. In today’s market, that fee feels reasonable, perhaps even conservative. Yet sentiment rarely aligns with spreadsheets.
A curious United supporter might argue that Rashford’s desire for a bigger role hints at unfinished business. If Barcelona hesitate or fail to activate the clause, would there be space for reintegration at Old Trafford, particularly under evolving tactical demands?
At the same time, there is realism. If the player is “happy in Barcelona and has no desire to return to United”, then forcing a reunion benefits nobody. Supporters may conclude that a clean break, with funds reinvested wisely, represents the pragmatic route.
Ultimately, this story feels like a test of identity for both clubs. Barcelona weigh stability against finances. United weigh nostalgia against renewal. Rashford stands between them, still talented, still ambitious, and still very much relevant.
