Marc-Andre ter Stegen finds himself at a crossroads in his career with FC Barcelona bringing in Joan Garcia recently to install him as their new No. 1.
With Wojciech Szczesny also set to renew his contract, the idea is for him to be the backup goalkeeper, with Barça planning to offload Ter Stegen.
The German international, also the club captain, however, has refused to leave and remains committed to competing for his spot in the team.
As such, MARCA reports that Ter Stegen has rejected an approach from AS Monaco, at least for the time being.
Despite Barcelona’s intention to reduce their number of goalkeepers this summer, the German international has made it clear he does not wish to leave the club. The Catalans, though, hope he will reconsider, especially as offers continue to arrive.
Monaco, currently finalising a loan deal with an option to buy for Ansu Fati, considered Ter Stegen as a potential reinforcement for their goal.

After finishing third in Ligue 1, Monaco will compete in the Champions League in the 2025-26 season. The Ligue 1 giants view the 33-year-old’s experience as a valuable asset that could strengthen their squad.
As such, Monaco contacted the German keeper directly, but he reiterated what he has maintained since Barcelona moved for Garcia: he does not intend to leave.
Ter Stegen, who has been with the club since 2014 and is under contract until June 2028, remains determined to fight for the starting position under Hansi Flick.
Nevertheless, Barcelona believe that as the summer progresses, Ter Stegen may be persuaded to change his mind.
The La Liga champions are quietly suggesting that if he hopes to compete in next summer’s World Cup, regular playing time during the 2025/26 season will be essential, which could convince him to explore other options.
