Brentford Women fought hard to secure victory as they beat Barking Women 3-0 in the London and South East Premier Division on Sunday afternoon away from home.

Khyri McKenzie, Reagan Graver and Chelsie Berry scored the goals which secured victory against a gutsy home side.

There were two changes made from the team that beat Newhaven last weekend: Carly Williams opted to give starts to Esme Alaneme and McKenzie while Habeebat Gbajabiamila and Ilana Harris-Walters would be options from the bench.

Brentford started in blistering fashion, blowing away their opponents with the first action of the game as a fine team move ended with Renai McCrea teeing up McKenzie who swept the ball into the net.

Evie Witek was called into action as the game settled following the early goal and the goalkeeper made a good stop to deny Shawn Harvey what looked like a certain goal.

Ashley Cheatley made a darting run down the left-hand side of the pitch, racing away from the retreating Barking defenders, but her eventual shot was saved by Darcie Salmons.

On 27 minutes, Carolin Engelhard’s effort from a corner flew just over the bar as the visitors began creating chances more frequently.

On 39 minutes though, Harvey beat Brentford's offside trap and as she took the ball round Witek, the goalkeeper had no choice but to foul her, conceding a penalty in the process.

Laura Bunton took the penalty, but smashed it wide.

In identical fashion to the first period, the west Londoners scored early to double their lead in the second half as Graver flicked a header towards goal which crossed the line despite attempted clearances away from the Barking defenders.

Cheatley had an opportunity to secure the three points soon after the second goal, as she struck an effort on target, but Salmons denied her.

Second-half substitute Chelsie Berry slalomed her way through challenges before striking on goal but again the Barking goalkeeper was in the right place to stop the shot.

The second period was a classy showing from the away side as they limited the home team's opportunities whilst going close to adding to the lead on several occasions.

With the final action of the game, Berry scored Williams' side's third with a smart finish from a tight angle.

The Bees are next in action on Sunday 7 September as they take on Sutton United at home in a 3pm kick-off.

Carly Williams on a professional away victory

Carly Williams spoke about her side's brilliant but hard-fought 3-0 win away from home against Barking Women Sunday afternoon at Mayesbrook Park.

“I’m really happy with the result today - a 3-0 win away from home is never easy, and I thought the players put in a very strong performance,” she said.

“We’ve been working really hard in training and you can see that the effort is starting to show on the pitch. The way we moved the ball, created chances, and stayed disciplined is much closer to how I want us to play.

“The girls are buying into the process, and that’s all I can ask for at this stage. Three wins from three, eight goals scored and none conceded is a great foundation to build from, but for me it’s also about the performances as much as the results.

“The whole squad is playing their part. The subs came on and lifted the game again, which is exactly what we want to see. We’re on a journey, and each week we’re seeing signs of progress. Hopefully the fans can see the style we’re trying to develop, and I’m really proud of the way the players are committing to that.”
