Bayer Leverkusen enter talks with Marseille for Argentine defender Medina | OneFootball

Facundo Medina is linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen a week after his strong performance at the World Cup final. Despite Argentina’s extra-time defeat to Spain, the Olympique de Marseille defender produced a solid performance for ten-man Argentina after coming on as a substitute.

Le Phocéen, who report news on all things Marseille, now reported Bayer Leverkusen emerged as a potential destination for the 27-year-old defensive all-rounder. Medina mainly played as a center-back in club football, but Lionel Scaloni preferred to use him as left-back at the World Cup apart from the game against Spain.

Marseille signed the player permanently from league rivals RC Lens for €20 million after an initial loan deal. According to the report, Leverkusen and Marseille are at an early stage of negotiation, with the French club expected to at least demand to recoup their investment.

The 14-time Argentine international made a total of 164 Ligue 1 appearances for Lens and Marseille. He also featured 10 times in the Champions League. Both Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen missed out on Champions League qualification in their respective leagues.

Medina's Argentina national teammate Exequiel Palacios is currently plying his trade at Leverkusen, although he was linked with a move to RB Leipzig at the end of last week.
