Bayern Boss Absent in Asia: The Reason Behind Dreesen’s Cancellation | OneFootball

FC Bayern will have to complete the second leg of its Asian tour without CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. Contrary to the original plan, the 58-year-old will not be accompanying the team to Hong Kong. The reason is a painful injury.

As reported by BILD, Dreesen broke several ribs in a fall. The doctors treating him therefore strongly advised the Bayern CEO against taking the long-haul flight to Hong Kong. Originally, Dreesen was scheduled to accompany the team on the second leg of the Audi Summer Tour, after having already skipped the stop in South Korea.

However, the injury is not keeping him from his work. According to BILD, Dreesen is continuing to attend his appointments and carrying out his duties from his office in Munich. Even before the start of the Asian tour, it was clear that the CEO would not be traveling to South Korea. However, his visit to Hong Kong has now also had to be canceled at the last minute.

Nevertheless, the German record champions’ leadership will be represented by high-ranking officials on site. Sporting Director Max Eberl, Marketing Director Rouven Kasper, as well as President Herbert Hainer and Vice President Prof. Dr. Dieter Mayer are accompanying the team in Hong Kong.

Bayern Aims for Second Friendly Win

On the field, FC Bayern successfully concluded the first leg of its Asian tour. In the 2-1 victory over Jeju SK, the two young talents Felipe Chávez and Bastian Assomo scored the goals.

Coach Vincent Kompany used the match primarily to gain new insights: “For me, the Jeju game wasn’t about the tactical side. It was about the fact that we’re in a different country. I’ve watched most leagues in Europe, and I find it interesting to see teams that operate in a completely different environment than we do.”

On Friday, the team faces its toughest test of the preseason so far against Europa League champion Aston Villa in Hong Kong. Kompany is likely to give several young players playing time there as well. Jan-Christian Dreesen, however, will have to watch the game from afar due to his injury.
