FC Bayern have found an economically sound solution for one of their biggest transfer flops of recent years after all. Bryan Zaragoza is leaving Celta Vigo early and will be loaned out to AS Roma – a deal that pays off for everyone involved, especially for the German record champions
When FC Bayern transferred a total of around €17 million to FC Granada for Bryan Zaragoza in the winter of 2024, expectations were high. The nimble winger was seen as a surprise coup with great development potential. In sporting terms, however, this never panned out. Zaragoza only made seven competitive appearances in Munich, failed to score a goal and played no part under several coaches
After just six months, it was clear that the Spaniard had no prospects at FC Bayern. He was then loaned back to Spain, first to CA Osasuna and then to Celta Vigo. There, too, Zaragoza fell short of expectations. At the current seventh-placed club in La Liga, the 24-year-old fluctuated between the starting eleven and a wild card role, scoring just two goals in 26 competitive games and providing the assist for four more
Despite this modest haul, interest in Zaragoza continues unabated. As reported by Sky, BILD and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, among others, AS Roma have secured the services of the attacking player. The transfer is set to go through on deadline day, with the player, clubs and advisors all in agreement. The player is already in Rome to finalise the deal

The transfer is proving to be surprisingly lucrative for FC Bayern. Firstly, AS Roma will pay compensation to Celta Vigo for the early termination of the loan. The Serie A club will then pay Zaragoza’s entire salary – as Celta did previously. In addition, a loan fee of around three million euros will flow to Munich, exactly the same amount that Celta had previously transferred to FCB
From Bayern’s point of view, the purchase option also speaks for a clean solution. While Celta Vigo had a purchase option of twelve million euros, this is now said to be around 13.5 million euros for Roma. According to information from BILD, this clause could even be converted into an obligation to buy if Zaragoza plays at least 50 percent of the possible minutes in the remaining games of the season
Zaragoza’s contract at FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2029, but all indications are that a return to Munich is out of the question. In sporting terms, the Spaniard has played no role in the club’s plans of late, while a permanent sale would be the most sensible solution in economic terms
For the player himself, the move to Rome is a new opportunity. Serie A, an ambitious club and the prospect of regular playing time will allow Zaragoza to refocus his career. Celta Vigo will also benefit from the compensation, while Roma will receive a flexible attacking player with prospects.
