FC Bayern has not only impressed in sporting terms this Champions League season, but also economically. After the end of the league phase and the play-offs, it is clear that no club has collected more bonuses than the German record champions

With seven wins from eight games, Munich secured second place in the table behind Arsenal FC and went straight through to the round of 16. This strong record is now also paying off financially

As the Football Meets Data portal reports, FC Bayern has so far collected €99.82 million in UEFA bonuses – the best figure among all participants, followed by Arsenal with €97.42 million and Manchester City in third place with €96.97 million

Bayern benefits particularly from media revenue

It is interesting to look at the composition of the revenue. While Arsenal recorded more performance-related bonuses due to a win, FC Bayern is clearly ahead in terms of media revenue, with around €43 million going to FCB compared to just under €38 million for Arsenal

The background to this is the distribution of the so-called market pool money. The countries are ranked according to the contribution of their national broadcasters to the total revenue of the competition. Bayern is better positioned than Arsenal in this ranking

In addition to media revenue, the fixed entry fee of €18.62 million and performance-related bonuses play a role, including points bonuses, a ranking bonus and money for reaching the knockout rounds

Bundesliga strongly represented

Bayer Leverkusen also benefited from the reform of the competition, coming tenth with €79.55 million. Borussia Dortmund, who failed to reach the play-offs against Atalanta Bergamo, received €71.08 million, putting them in 14th place. Eintracht Frankfurt, who were eliminated in the league phase, received €48.73 million

It is striking that five of the top 10 clubs are from the Premier League, but there is another name at the top – FC Bayern

With a view to the upcoming draw for the round of 16 – Atalanta Bergamo or Bayer Leverkusen – Munich have not only established a strong starting position in sporting terms, FCB has also underpinned its claim to be one of Europe’s absolute elite financially

Almost 100 million euros after the league phase speaks for itself, and the sum is likely to increase with every step towards the final in Budapest
