Bayern dominated the proceedings and maintained possession as expected, creating some early opportunities in the opening few minutes.

In the 10th minute, Harry Kane was involved in a terrific counterattack, leaving Michael Olise to have a crack at goal, but Gregor Kobel saved his effort. Luis Diaz tried to cut inside from the right and had a shot on goal as well, but again, Kobel came to the rescue.

The home side did not have to wait long for the goal, as Harry Kane scored with a header to net his 12th goal of the season, from Joshua Kimmich’s corner.

Diaz was a livewire on the pitch, and this time he tried to cut inside from the right and have a blast at goal, only to take a deflection on the way.

Moments later, Sacha Boey came close to doubling the lead, but his effort from the right went inches wide of the target.

Kane tried to hit from a distance but could not keep his shot on target, although it was agonisingly close. Soon after, Michael Olise nearly scored a sensational goal, but the ball kissed the post in a breathtaking attacking build-up.

In the closing stages of the first half, Diaz had a shot blocked, and then Kimmich hit straight at the keeper.

After the break, Felix Nmecha nearly equalised for Borussia Dortmund, but he could not keep his header on target. Dayot Upamecano should have done better in preventing the cross.

Serhou Guirassy found himself in acres of space inside the Bayern box, and he should have scored, but only managed to hit way over the bar.

Adeyemi missed a golden opportunity to level for Dortmund, but Jonathan Tah was in the right place to clear it away.

Nico Schlotterbeck made a fabulous challenge to deny Olise, and then moments later, Diaz was put free on goal, but Anton denied him with a strong tackle.

Bayern doubled their lead in the 78th minute through Michael Olise. Kane produced one of the passes of the season to find Diaz on the left. After the ball was crossed in, Bellingham took a much longer time to clear the ball, and Olise showed great presence of mind to slide in and score from close range.

Julian Brandt came off the bench to tap in from close range to keep the game interesting, although Upamecano should have done better.

Diaz had the chance to make it 3-1, but Kobel made a terrific save to deny him from close range.

Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.

Bayern Munich player ratings

Manuel Neuer (7) – The Bayern legend failed to keep a clean sheet. While Dortmund created loads of chances in the second half, Neuer was hardly forced to make strong saves. But he was asked to make saves; he did—the sign of a top-class keeper.

Konrad Laimer (6) – Another solid performance from the left, where he made some strong tackles, but very little output going forward.

Dayot Upamecano (5) – The Frenchman, whose contract is set to expire next summer, made a fantastic block to deny Adeyemi, but he should have done better to prevent the cross that led to Dortmund’s goal.

Jonathan Tah (7) – Arguably the solid of the two defenders, won all his duels and made three big clearances.

Sacha Boey (6) – The right-back came close to scoring in the first half, but apart from that, he was barely involved.

Joshua Kimmich (7) – Nearly scored a goal and was superb in the first half, but gifted cheap possession, which nearly led to a goal for Dortmund.

Aleksandar Pavlovic (7) – Physically strong, won 100% duels, and registered 94% passing accuracy. It was a superb effort from the 21-year-old.

Michael Olise (8) – Another sensational performance from the Frenchman. He was a terror from the right-hand side and created so many opportunities. Scored one goal as well.

Luis Diaz (8) – The Colombian has been a livewire for Bayern. He ran ragged the Dortmund defence at times, and was very unlucky not to have found the net.

Harry Kane (9) – The player of the match. Kane scored in his seventh consecutive game to set a new record. It was his 12th goal of the season. However, more than the goal, it was his all-around performance that needed to be highlighted, including a sliding tackle. What else can he not do?

Nicolas Jackson (4) – Poor. Very, very poor. He did nothing today and looked completely lost when the attacking trio of Kane, Diaz, and Olise worked so well.
