Recent weeks have made it clear as to which positions Real Madrid must strengthen in upcoming transfer windows and the midfield is one department that is rising on that front.

While Los Blancos have decent depth in the middle of the park, they have struggled to fill the void left by Toni Kroos’ retirement and thus require a player who can play deeper in the park but also provides a creative outlet.

Joshua Kimmich is one player the Merengues have their eyes on in that regard, especially given that he is in the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich.

Decision incoming

Potentially a free agent in June, Kimmich has emerged as a top target for several of Europe’s elite including both of Spain’s footballing giants – Barcelona and Real Madrid.

For the Merengyes, in particular, he strikes the administration as a high-quality player who can arrive on a free transfer just as Alphonso Davies is slated to do in June.

Now, as revealed by Mundo Deportivo, the player has made a massive statement regarding his future as he has revealed that he will not wait until June to decide his next step.

“I won’t wait until summer. I will sit down with the club this winter and try to see the big picture. In January I will make the right decision,” he said in a recent interview.

Kimmich’s words thus indicate the growing possibility of a renewal with Bayern Munich which he has shown growing interest towards in recent weeks.

While it would come as a big blow to Real Madrid’s plans, it is not unexpected by any means.

So far this season, the 29-year-old has started all 12 of Bayern Munich’s games in the Bundesliga and has racked up two assists in that duration. Further, he averages 2.2 key passes per game and has created four big chances.
