Dayot Upamecano’s future has been a major point of discussion in recent weeks, with his contract at Bayern Munich expiring at the end of the season.
Real Madrid have emerged as a suitor for the French international, with the Spanish capital club on the lookout for centre-back reinforcements for 2026.
However, in a concerning development for Los Blancos, BBC Sport reports that Bayern Munich expect Upamecano to sign a new contract soon as they are in advanced talks over an extension with the player.
Upamecano, given his current deal expires at the end of the season, can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any club of his choice starting January.
Real Madrid are among many suitors for the former RB Leipzig man as the likes of PSG, Liverpool, and Chelsea are also interested.

However, Bayern have been working hard to get their defender to sign a new deal, with the German champions growing confident about his renewal in recent weeks.
Now, as per BBC Sport, positive discussions have taken place between Upamecano and the Bavarians, who now expect their ace defender to sign a new contract imminently.
It will come as a major blow for Real Madrid, who had seemingly made Upamecano their top target in defence after ruling out a move for Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and not seeing Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace as priority.
But with Upamecano now closing in on a renewal at Bayern Munich, it will be interesting to see whether Real Madrid revive their interest in Konate or Guehi or go after a new player altogether.
