Sky Germany reports that Bayern Munich are monitoring the progress of VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade as they look for a Harry Kane backup.

The league leaders are only monitoring Woltemade, but a move is unlikely to materialise as the 23-year-old would not be given gametime behind Kane or even Jamal Musiala. While staying at Stuttgart would massively help Woltemade’s development, as he has taken great leaps in his progress in recent weeks.

This season, Woltemade has 12 goals and three assists in 24 games for Stuttgart and has shown how unique a player he is with the fact that he is 6ft 4in and has amazing technical ability.

Sky also reported earlier in the week that Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt is also being considered. However, despite only costing €25m, the 24-year-old may decide to stay at the Karnival club if they qualify for the Champions League. Burkardt is one of the key reasons behind Mainz currently sitting in third in the Bundesliga. The German international has 15 goals in 22 Bundesliga games this season.

What is clear is Bayern’s search for a backup for Kane will not be as easy as first thought, especially when it comes to their track record of giving young forwards a chance (barring Musiala).
