Manchester City have been issued with a significant boost to hopes of signing Joshua Kimmich this summer, with new reports revealing the stance taken by Bayern Munich.

Etihad Stadium bosses are intent on recruiting significantly in the centre of midfield this summer, amid concerns over the longevity of Kevin De Bruyne in the squad and a belief that more creativity is required.

There is also an acceptance from Manchester City officials and coaching staff that Pep Guardiola does not have a capable back-up to Rodrigo present in his squad, should the Spaniard succumb to injury or suspension, or simply require a rest.

As such, the Premier League champions have identified two key options that could check the two aforementioned boxes, with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich eyed for attacking roles and defensive midfield duties respectively.

And a new update on the situation concerning the latter has emerged, despite the player currently focussing his attentions on the field in Germany’s pursuit of European Championships glory this summer.

According to the information of journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Bayern Munich have now opened the door to Joshua Kimmich, who has just one year remaining on his current Allianz Arena contract, with no extension having been agreed.

Whilst the latest will no doubt come as a boost to Manchester City’s hopes of signing the versatile midfielder, the report explains that having faced ‘difficulties’ in a pursuit of Benfica’s João Neves, Paris Saint-Germain have ‘reactivated’ their own interest in Kimmich.

Kimmich knows the ways of working under Pep Guardiola very well, having operated under the legendary Catalan coach during their time together at the Allianz Arena, widely crediting the coach for his knowledge of the game across a multitude of roles.

Some reports have already suggested that the existing relationship between the pair could ultimately prove decisive this summer, should Manchester City look to intensify their admiration for the 29-year-old after Euro 2024.

With regards to what role Kimmich could play at the Etihad Stadium, the Germany star is likely to be able to operate as a back-up option at right-back, but predominantly star in midfield and act as support for Rodrigo.
