Dean Huijsen’s arrival has truly worked wonders for Real Madrid’s defence with the Spaniard bringing in not only the composure and technique but the young legs and ball-playing ability Los Blancos desperately needed at the back.

There is, however, another vacancy in the department that needs to be filled as Real Madrid make their plans for the long haul, especially with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger both staring uncertain futures.

The goal, thus, is to bring in another world-class name next summer to act as a regular starter alongside Huijsen.

The likes of Ibrahima Konate, Marc Guehi, Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba have all been linked with the club and thus offered Florentino Perez and Co. a goldmine to pick from.

More importantly, several of them are in the final year of their contracts and would thus be available as free agents.

The top target’s stance

As relayed by Cadena SER in a recent report, it is Bayern Munich’s Upamecano who is seen as Real Madrid’s top target for the summer and is even seen as a top priority internally.

The Bavarians, however, are determined to keep the defender at any cost and are not deterred even by the stalling of contract negotiations.

Upamecano’s current contract at Bayern Munich runs out next summer but negotiations between his environment and the club have hit a standstill as they continue to tussle over the right payment terms.

The player demands a certain scale of pay and has submitted his detailed proposal – one that he is unwilling to negotiate on.

The coming months will be crucial as the German club have been pushed into a situation where they must cave into his demands or let him leave for free – a situation that undoubtedly tempts Los Blancos as a serious opportunity to steal the 26-year-old.
