Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has played down reports of interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.

Having been forced to accept a reserve role under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, Nkunku has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this month and reports from Germany have named the 27-year-old as Bayern's top target for the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea have slapped a price tag of €70m (£59.1m) on Nkunku's head, while The Telegraph put that figure closer to £65m. Such a figure would see Chelsea make a profit on the initial £52m paid to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023.

As part of the negotiations between the two clubs, Chelsea have once again stressed their interest in signing Bayern forward Mathys Tel, although the Bundesliga outfit have already confirmed their desire to keep hold of the young Frenchman.

Freund, who previously played down the idea of a move for Nkunku towards the end of 2024, has again distanced Bayern from a move for the Chelsea forward.

Asked whether Nkunku is under discussion in Munich, Fruend told Sky Sports Germany: "No!

"If it is the case that we continue into the season [with the current squad], which is our plan, then it is not a topic of conversation that we bring in an attacker, because we are very, very well positioned there, both in terms of quality and numbers."

Despite Freund's public insistence, reports claim Bayern have already reached an agreement over personal terms with Nkunku, who is keen to return to the Bundesliga this month.
