In what would be a huge boost for FC Barcelona, midfield target Joshua Kimmich is getting closer and closer to a departure from the German club this summer.

This update comes from journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that the Bavarians are unlikely to offer a new contract to the midfield superstar, whose current deal expires in 2025.

As of now, there are no plans to offer him a renewal as new manager Vincent Kompany plans for a fresh look for his midfield unit.

Kimmich open to departure

With Bayern’s stance becoming clear, the report further adds that Kimmich is also very much open to the idea of parting ways with his club.

The 29-year-old versatile midfielder would be ready to part ways this summer if a suitable offer comes along or enter the final year of his contract and leave for free in 2025.

This development comes as a major boost for Barcelona who have sought the services of the German international since last year when they bid goodbye to Sergio Busquets.

Furthermore, the report adds that Kimmich has a list of five elite clubs that he would be willing to join, one of which happens to be Barcelona.

Real Madrid also an option for Kimmich

However, Real Madrid would also be an option that Kimmich would be willing to consider this summer, especially with reports suggesting that Los Blancos see him as a candidate to replace Toni Kroos.

Apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid, Kimmich would also be open to signing for three Premier League heavyweights in the form of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

In fact, recent reports have claimed that a move to Man City, where he would reunite with former mentor Pep Guardiola, is very much possible this summer.

To summarise, Kimmich appears all set to leave Bayern Munich either this summer or next and has Barcelona and Real Madrid, among others, as his preferred destinations. As to where he ends up, only time will tell.
